Douglas R. Powell is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Child Development and Family Studies at Purdue University. His research focuses on professional development interventions designed to strengthen instructional practices that promote early literacy development. Currently he is directing a large study of a professional development program focused on young children’s vocabulary and phonological awareness skills, conducted with Head Start teachers.

Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Baker is a Professor of Literacy Studies at the University of Missouri. Dr. Baker's research interests include integration of literacy and technology, new literacies, future literacies, 21st century literacies, multimedia case-based instruction in teacher education, and sociocognition in teacher education, literacy, and new literacies.
